The mission of the Flathead County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post is to educate the law enforcement workforce of tomorrow by engaging and mentoring todays youth in the career of law enforcement.

What are Explorers?

Flathead County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Explorer Program

The Law Enforcement Explorer Program gives young adults ages 14–21 the opportunity to experience what it takes to become a law enforcement officer. Explorers receive hands-on training in fundamental law enforcement skills and procedures, preparing them to safely and effectively respond to a variety of real-world public safety situations.

Explorers meet year-round, and members are expected to commit to the program for at least one year. Through classroom instruction, practical exercises, and mentorship from experienced deputies, Explorers develop leadership, teamwork, confidence, and professional skills that will benefit them in law enforcement and beyond.

Community Service

Explorers serve their community by assisting at a variety of public events under the direct supervision of Flathead County Sheriff's Office Deputy Sheriffs. These assignments provide valuable real-world experience while allowing Explorers to develop confidence, professionalism, and teamwork in a safe learning environment.

Training

Year round, Explorers participate in approximately four training sessions each month. These hands-on trainings are designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to safely and effectively respond to a variety of law enforcement calls for service.

Competitions

Explorer competitions provide members with an exciting opportunity to put their training and skills to the test in realistic, scenario-based events. In addition to challenging themselves, Explorers have the chance to travel, meet other young adults who share their interest in law enforcement, and build lasting friendships.

Ride-Alongs

Explorers have the opportunity to participate in ride-alongs with Flathead County Sheriff's Office patrol deputies, as well as officers from other law enforcement agencies throughout Flathead County. These experiences provide members with a firsthand look at the daily responsibilities of law enforcement professionals and expose them to a variety of policing environments.

The Flathead County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Explorer Program is proudly a branch of Flathead County Sheriff's Posse, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Sheriff's Office through volunteer service, and community involvement.

As members of the Sheriff's Posse family, Explorers benefit from the support of an organization that is committed to mentoring the next generation of public safety professionals. The Posse helps provide training opportunities, equipment, travel assistance, and resources that allow Explorers to participate in high-quality law enforcement training and regional competitions.

This partnership gives Explorers the unique opportunity to work alongside dedicated volunteers and sworn deputies while building leadership skills, serving the community, and preparing for future careers in law enforcement and other public service professions. The relationship between the Sheriff's Posse and the Explorer Program reflects a shared commitment to integrity, service, and investing in the future of Flathead County.
