Applications: OPEN

Applications will close January 1, 2026 and reopen late summer of 2026. 

The program has a maximum capacity of 25 members. Once capacity is reached a waiting list will be established for future openings. As of December 20, 2025 we have 18 active members. 

To qualify for membership in our post we require: 

-Be of good character as determined by a background investigation.

-Be ages 14-20, and finished the 8th grade. 

-Attend school or live in Flathead County.

-Commit to a 12 month period of membership.

-Have an interest in law enforcement or criminal justice career. 

-Maintain a minimum of 80% attendance rate for meetings and trainings, meetings are held approximately 3-4 times a month. Applicants who participate in other extra school activities or sports are welcome to apply, we just ask you consider the time requirements of each of your programs.  

All applicants will be required to participate in an oral board interview as well as a background check. 

*Please note the Explorer Program is unable to offer community service credit alone, full participation in our full program is required, we are unable to accommodate court ordered community service. Our programs background process requires no criminal record of arrest and or convictions within the last 3 years. Traffic offenses do not count for this 3 year requirement but will be evaluated by the Post Advisor.
